content-king-rank-on-googleIf you’ve been doing the online marketing thing for your business for long, you’ve probably heard one thing over and over: content is king. While that may be the standard line for those of us in the business, the reasons behind it might not be totally clear. Content is important when you’re trying to rank high on Google, sure – but why? Take a look below for the 4 reasons that content is in fact king.

It Gives You Authority

If you are continuously creating unique, original content for your website and blog based on the keywords that you have chosen to target, online viewers, as well as Google, will begin to see you as an authority on the subject(s). The more often you publish a blog post relating to a particular topic, the more authority you will have.

Let’s say you own a vegan restaurant in Sherman Oaks. Your target consumer group is going to be online searching for much more than simply vegan restaurants. A great keyword to target would be “simple vegan breakfast recipes”, for example. If you decide this is one of the keywords you will focus on, then spend an ample amount of time creating content focusing on that particular keyword phrase.

After publishing several blog posts with those words interspersed throughout, you will begin to climb the Google search engine results page for that keyword. When someone sets out to Google “simple vegan breakfast recipes”, then they will see your blog articles pop up. When they discover that you have posted several blogs on this topic, as well as many that relate, they will view you as an authority on the subject.

It Gives Readers a Reason to Come Back

Just as the content you publish gives you authority in the eyes of your readers, it will also be a great way to draw them back to your site again and again. They will begin to rely on your page for information that they find valuable.

If you consistently publish recipes, health tips, links to informative videos and articles, and other information that your target buyers have a need for, they will come back frequently to see what new content you have. This is a great reason to implement a blogging schedule. If you push out a new blog post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, your loyal readers know they can come back each of those days and find fresh content.

It Establishes Your Business as a Leader

Although blogging and social media are becoming commonplace for most businesses, not all have jumped on the bandwagon at this point. Odds are, some of your competitors may have a Facebook page or a nice website, but not many will be investing a large amount of time in developing a quality blog for their business. This is good news for you, because it means you are ahead of the game.

If your target consumers are searching for a vegan restaurant in your area, and their search returns your business as well as four others, they will likely take a closer look at those of you that spark their interest. Usually, it’s whoever has the most attractive website and an available menu online. If they Google your business name and find your website, social media sites, blog, and numerous blog articles covering a variety of topics they find appealing, then you will be setting the standard. It’s unlikely that any of your competitors will be able to measure up.

It Helps Get Your Business Discovered

At the end of the day, everything you do online has one purpose: drawing in new customers. The best way to do that is to have an expansive web presence. It’s simple, really. The more content you publish, the more frequently you update, and the more site pages you have, the more likely it is that people will find you.

If you follow search engine optimization (SEO) guidelines and keyword best practices, you will quickly begin showing up in the search results of those who are looking for the products and services that you offer.

As you can see, investing your time and energy into developing unique, quality content for your company blog is one of the most worthwhile things you can do for your business. While there are many things you can do to advance your business online, developing content is a simple way to produce the results you want and need. To read more on this topic, download our free eBook "How to Rank #1 on Google".
