Can Twitter Generate Internet Leads for Small Business Owners?

Posted by Celeste Aslanyants on Tuesday, August 19, 2014

twitter-internet-leadsFor many small business owners, Twitter is a bit of a mystery. No one is totally sure what the point is, it seems confusing to use, and many people wonder if it actually is beneficial for businesses at all. After all, the name of the game when it comes to growing a business online is generating leads – how can Twitter possibly help with that? Well, the good news is, it is possible to generate Internet leads on Twitter. You’ll find a few tips on how to get started below.

The rule of thumb when using Twitter to generate leads is the same as with anything else you do for online lead generation – offer your followers something they want. What that “something” is will depend on the type of business you have and who your target buyer is. If, for example, you have a deli in a small suburb near Chicago, you could possibly come up with the idea of a free recipe eBook showcasing ten new recipes that your visitors can download. Many of your followers will be food lovers, obviously, and many of them would love new recipes to try out. As with everything in the business world, it’s important to know your audience (buyer persona).

Once you have created an enticing offer, you will need to make sure you have a landing page to send your followers to collect it. Creating a landing page on which to showcase your offer is essential. If you send viewers directly to the homepage of your website, you run the risk of them bouncing and your offer never being found. But if you have created a landing page specifically to display this free recipe eBook, then the odds of you quickly and easily collecting their contact information skyrocket.

This landing page will need to be simple to navigate with a clear message explaining exactly what the offer entails. It will need to include a capture form where they will leave their contact information (the less information required, the better). All they will then need to do is fill out the form and download their free content. It’s an incredibly simple way to capture a promising Internet lead.

Now that you have your offer and your landing page, it’s time to start putting your Twitter page to work. You can begin promoting your eBook through carefully crafted tweets a few times each day. The tweets can be simple, but they will need to say enough to entice followers to click through. Using the word “free” is a great way to grab attention, as is asking pointed questions. For example: “Do you love to cook? Visit our page to download a FREE recipe eBook featuring 10 delicious recipes!”. This will grab the attention of your followers and hopefully encourage them to click through to redeem the offer.

Aside from your content offers, it’s important to use Twitter for what it was originally intended, which is to carry on conversations and build relationships. Engage your followers. Ask questions. Provide valuable information. Tweet links to funny videos or informative articles that you’ve discovered. Pay attention to what they’re saying, and interact with them. Building a friendship of sorts is a great way to build loyalty, which often will bring in long-lasting customers to your business. Twitter, as well as the majority of other social media platforms out there, is an excellent way to do just that.
